Corey Peters, Olsen Pierre, Robert Nkemdiche and Rodney Gunter are the Cardinals’ top defensive linemen. Arizona tendered restricted free agent Xavier Williams.

AC: Yeah, we talk every so often. I was back there in the fall for a game and got to talk to him, and he calls me about every season, so yeah.

Q: Do you consider yourself at this point a three-down player, or are you more focused on the sub-situation kind of roles that you’ve taken on?

AC: I believe that’s what people have pigeon-holed me in as a third-down player, but I know I can play first, second, third down if need be. That was my role in Atlanta because that’s what they asked me to do, but I mean, I can play all three downs if you ask me.

Q: How hard was it watching and not playing in Super Bowl LI? Do you think you could have made a difference in the game?

AC: I mean, it was tough to watch being hurt. The Super Bowl was two weeks after I tore my bicep, so it was hard to watch. It was a hard week. I don’t know if I could have made an impact. I would hope so. I mean, that’s my job to do every game, so I would hope I would have been able to make an impact in that game and possibly a different outcome.

A fourth-round pick in 2012, Wright was due to earn $3.6 million this year in base salary. The move creates $2.12 million in dead money, which will be split equally between 2018 and 2019, if the Vikings opted to make the move a post-June 1 transaction.

Wright caught only 18 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns during the 2017 regular season. He had six catches for 107 yards in a pair of playoff games.

The Detroit Lions are signing running back LeGarrette Blount to a one-year, $4.5-million contract, a source told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Blount won two consecutive Super Bowl titles over the last two seasons – first with the New England Patriots in 2016, and then with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 against his former club. The running back also won a Super Bowl with the Patriots in 2014.

Well, Lynch will be a Raider in 2018, and a telling sign will kick in Sunday. According to NFL Network, Lynch will receive his $1 million roster bonus previously scheduled to come March 18. As his head coach has expressed desire for before, Lynch will be the feature back in Oakland锟斤拷s offense during Year 1 under Gruden.

Looking at the film in a game that I broadcasted on Christmas night, there锟斤拷s no question he锟斤拷s still a beast, Gruden said at the NFL Combine last month. He锟斤拷s hard to bring down. One of the reason锟斤拷s I锟斤拷m excited to be with the Raiders is to join forces with Lynch. But, we锟斤拷ll see what happens. Obviously, we have to take a look at the entire roster, but I锟斤拷m counting on him. I锟斤拷m counting on him being Jonas Hiller Jersey a big part of our football team.

The Raiders signed veteran running back Doug Martin on Thursday, meaning Oakland锟斤拷s running backs corps currently consists of Lynch, Martin, DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard. Martin figures to be the No. 2 behind Lynch, who is coming off a second half of 2017 that placed him among the most effective running backs in the NFL.

Nelson is on board in Oakland as a replacement for the newly released Michael Crabtree, with Nelson agreeing to a two-year, $15 million deal guaranteeing $13 million.

At face value it doesn’t seem likely. Archer is under a team-friendly contract that pays him $13.75 million over the next two Jared Crick Youth jersey years with club options for $9 million in 2020 and $11 million in 2021. The Rays can demand a big return for Archer’s services.

The Twins still have a good farm system, and they have young fringe players on the roster, but Tampa Bay would have to be blown away by a trade offer since they don’t need to move Archer.

Minnesota may have a better chance before the July 31 trade deadline. The Rays may be more anxious to sell by then, and the Twins may be more desperate to offer a better package. It just doesn’t feel like Archer is moving before the season starts.

Will they sign a high-priced free agent? Will they trade Jackie Bradley Jr. for a slugger? Will they sign one of the free-agent starting pitchers? These are decisions the Red Sox should have already made, and desperately need to make now. It’s important for team cohesiveness once spring training starts.

Players like to know where they stand, and the Red Sox seem unsettled despite having a solid lineup and rotation. The outfield trio of Bradley, Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi is one any team would take. Boston needs to focus on winning with the lineup already in place.

Boston’s rotation, in its current state, is fine. Chris Sale, David Price, Drew Pomeranz and Rick Porcello offer a formidable four-man postseason rotation, but injuries have been an issue for this group.

The Red Sox may feel compelled to sign an Alex Cobb or Lance Lynn to make sure they have depth should Price or Pomeranz suffer another injury. Price and Porcello also possess poor playoff records and Sale has limited playoff experience. If the Red Sox do make another move, it should be a starting pitcher.

And to top it off, the Browns sent quarterback DeShone Kizer (their 2017 second-round pick) to Green Bay for Randall, swapping fourth- and fifth-round picks with the Packers in the process. Randall emerged as one the few bright spots on Green Bay’s miserable defense last season, and at minimum practice with Gordon will be entertaining, given their exchange on Twitter last year.

Chicago, however, has a chance to have a special offense immediately under Nagy, and that requires being aggressive. A good model to follow is that of Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia, which went out and got key weapons for sophomore Carson Wentz 鈥?including former Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery 鈥?knowing it could round out elite line play.

The Bears have work to do in order to get Trubisky better protection while also overhauling the skill positions. Taking all that into account, here’s a look at how they might fill their five biggest veteran needs with free agents in March.

This move is the fourth trade the Browns have made in less than 24 hours, but the trades can’t become official until Wednesday when the 2018 league year begins. It’s becoming clear new general manager John Dorsey is ready to rebuild the roster in Cleveland.

The decision to trade Shelton comes a day after the team acquired quarterback Tyrod Taylor from the Bills, wide receiver Jarvis Landry from the Dolphins and cornerback Damarious Randall from the Packers.

Donovan Mitchell says he has not received invite to NBA Slam Dunk Contest (not yet, at least)

The list of NBA All-Star snubs continues to grow and might have now spilled over into the rest of the weekend’s activities.

Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell told reporters Wednesday that he has not received an invitation to participate in this year’s Slam Dunk Contest.

“I had a feeling I wasn’t going to be in it so it’s all right that I’m not,” Mitchell said. “Not really complaining about it, but it would’ve been cool, a great experience.”

A lot of Adebayo’s assists have come in the form of handoffs. Similar to how the Pistons have used Andre Drummond this season, the Heat like to give Adebayo the ball at the elbow and have him hand the ball off to a guard curling from the corner.

It opens up driving lanes for his teammates and forces the defense to account for Adebayo despite the fact that he struggles to create for himself outside of the paint. If they don’t, it can lead to uncontested opportunities for the ball handler curling off his screen.

“As a die-hard Spartan fan, as an alumnus, as a supporter, I wish those who were affected, touched by it, broken by it, shaken, whatever it did to you, I wish them well in their recovery. Because it touches everybody in a different way,” Green said after the Warriors’ win over the Celtics, via ESPN. “Whether you’re a supporter and it kills your pride or whether you’re a victim and you’re going through the things that you’re going through.

“I offer my support to coach (Mark) Dantonio and coach Izzo in their efforts to rebuild and to help the victims in any way that they can. They say the true test of a man is what he does in a time of adversity. I know those two guys will stand up and do whatever they can to help. I look forward to helping in any way I can. Those affected, supporters, most importantly, the victims, any way I can help, I look forward to that.”

Green’s statement came after an investigation by ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” into Michigan State and its athletic department “found a pattern of widespread denial, inaction and information suppression of such allegations by officials ranging from campus police to the Spartan athletic department … well beyond the highly publicized case of former MSU athletic physician Larry Nassar.”

The bombshell report published Friday comes the same week Nassar was sentenced in a Lansing, Mich., court to 40 to 175 years in prison for criminal sexual conduct, some in his role as an MSU athletic department physician.lions_041

Yu Darvish shows range in debut for Cubs, clocks 95 on fastball

After throwing two innings against his former team on Tuesday, Chicago Cubs right-hander Yu Darvish was pleased with his velocity. He clocked 95 mph on several fastballs as he struck out four and walked two while giving up one run.

“Because I lost some weight in the offseason, I was worried about my velocity, but it was right up there,” Darvish said through his interpreter after his spring debut. “I’m glad it’s 95 mph.”

“As we get closer to the season opening, I’ll think about that,” Darvish said.

He maintains whether he was tipping or not, he didn’t execute and got beat by a good team.

Darvish was then asked why he lost all that weight during the winter.

“Because of what happened in the World Series,” he responded.

He’s slated to pitch for the Cubs in Game 3 opening week, against the Marlins.

Writing about the best players in baseball over the next half-decade comes down to equal parts math and guesswork. Whenever you’re supposed to look forward, it can be instructive to look back. Here are the top 10 players since 2013:

Out of that group, eight players were terrific in 2012. But with Kluber and Donaldson there was very little warning. Both were late bloomers, with Kluber learning a sinker in Triple-A and Donaldson overhauling his swing. There’s simply nothing I can do to be able to predict random breakouts such as those. The same would apply to someone such as J.D. Martinez. Sometimes we don’t get indicators, aside from a player being in the majors or the high minors in the first place.

So going forward, I’m trying to think about the best probabilities. I’m not going to pick a non-prospect in Triple-A at random. Instead, we’re going with players who have already shown they’re good, emphasizing two things: youth and being a position player. Youth because we’re focusing on value from 2018 through 2022, and baseball players just don’t age very well. Being a position player because as a general rule, don’t trust pitcher health. There is one pitcher included in the top 10, but I couldn’t bring myself to add another. There’s just too much risk, and just about every pitcher’s body is a ticking time bomb.

Super Bowl 52 pregame show: Time, live TV schedule, and performers for Sunday

Over the past two years, Hamilton has swept into the zeitgeist as an unescapable piece of pop culture, imagining an early America where duels and rap battles were interchangeable pieces of the political landscape. The NFL, the sports monolith that still regularly relies on the music of Bon Jovi and Styx to reach out to fans, has finally taken notice.

“I’m excited to get to work with my new NBC family,” said Earnhardt Jr. “Beginning with two huge events like the Super Bowl and Olympics, right out of the gate, should be quite the introduction. I’m looking forward to raising the profile of NASCAR and all that we’re going to be doing during the 2018 season.”

That won’t be all you’ll hear about the Winter Olympics Sunday. NBC will pepper its coverage with 60-second profiles of American athletes in a synergistic show of brand-driven patriotism. The network will bring you the stories of medal hopefuls like Shaun White, Lindsey Vonn, Chloe Kim, and Nathan Chen throughout commercial breaks in preparation for next week’s Opening Ceremonies.

Part of me wants to give credit to the fact that it might have just been a perfectly made wing where the meat just falls right off, but it’s never THAT clean. That’s how eating wings would look in a cartoon.

It probably shouldn’t be such a surprise that he’s this impressive — because he does know a thing or two about chickens. He’s actually a chicken farmer.

Miller was also a poultry science minor at Texas A&M. He got his first chickens in 2013. He told SB Nation’s Matt Ufford back then that he thought taking a class on it would be an easy credit at school, but he ended up getting into it:

It really started off by taking easy classes. It was easy classes, I just thought it was going to be an easy A, just talk about chickens all day. So I’m just like, okay cool, I’m just going to take this class, sleep through it, I’m going to do the test and I’m going to be good, easy A. But my professor, he just wasn’t having it. I tried to come in and do my plan, sleep and just do the test, but he just wasn’t having it. It was tougher than what I thought. He told me if I didn’t pick it up, he was going to fail me, he wasn’t going to help me.

It’s a just reminder that most of the coolest dunks humanly possible have already been done.

Despite being injured, Phelps, who posted a 3.12 ERA and struck out 11 in 8 2/3 innings with Seattle last year, stayed with the team through the final home stand of 2017.

I only pitched in a handful of games (with Seattle), but I was able to be around the rest of the season, Phelps said. I stuck around until the last home stand just so I could get to know the guys and some of the younger pitchers, pick their brains on everything and teach them what I could. Biggest thing for me was knowing I was here, getting comfortable with the guys and building relationships.

One of Mitchell’s early dunks was an alley-oop off the side of the backboard while leaping over three kneeling short people (including comedian Kevin Hart). People have dunked baseline off the side of the backboard before — people have jumped over much taller people or things on alley-oops before. (Blake Griffin jumped over a car!)

Yet in the end, we’re left wanting.

There are few ambitious dunks that haven’t been discovered. Dennis Smith Jr., who did not advance to the final round despite having the best dunk of the night, hit a reverse 360 through-the-legs hand switch:

That’s new (for the Dunk Contest, at least). But because Dunk Contest scoring is weird and Smith missed this the first two times he tried, this jam becomes a relative afterthought. It was twice the dunk that Mitchell’s finale was.

He has a family, and you know what? He has to take care of himself, Gardenhire said. We’re going to make sure he’s healthy and this doesn’t take away from his life after baseball and all those things. But, this guy’s a gamer. This guy — he’s got a lot of passion to hit, and I’m hoping that I get to use him for another year or two, or whatever.

Martinez can’t be certain of how this season will go — or even how he’ll do in spring training. But he can certainly appreciate the chance to be back on the field.

When I came into the big leagues, I was 22, 23 years old. I used to see the veteran guys all in the hot tub. They were like, ‘Yeah, wait until you’re 30,’ Martinez said. Now I know what they were talking about. It just doesn’t get any easier. I’m just thankful to God give me this opportunity and be in this game for this long.

Some shooters love taking jumpers from straightaway looking directly as the basket. Dirk Nowitzki, for example, is famous for his trailing threes. It gives the shooter time to heat up and is early enough that he won’t rush any shots. On the downside, it’s further from the basket than the rest of the spots.

Dawson was brought in for a second interview.

The Panthers also interviewed Buffalo assistant director of scouting Lake Dawson, Houston Texans assistant general manager Jimmy Raye III and Martin Mayhew, senior personnel executive with San Francisco, for the full-time general manager job.

All three are minority candidates, fulfilling the league’s rule that teams have to interview at least one minority candidate for general manager and head-coaching positions.

Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan, Javier Fernandez of Spain and Shoma Uno of Japan are the leaders after the short program, while three Americans did well enough to qualify for the free skate. The competition begins at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, with live streaming via NBC Olympics and FuboTV.

We’re going to have live coverage of the event, which will feature 24 skaters, including Nathan Chen, Vincent Zhou and Adam Rippon of the United States. Earning a medal is going to be tough, though, as the highest-rated of the group is Rippon at No. 7 overall following the short program.

The free skate is called the long program because it lasts four minutes, 30 seconds, and is very taxing on the body. The men’s event is now generally focused on one thing, primarily: quadruple jumps. The quad jump is exactly what it sounds like — four rotations in the air, landing on one foot. It’s the skating or snowboarding equivalent of a 1440.

We feel like we’re in a partnership with the city of Philadelphia, the fans of Philadelphia and certainly the sports teams of Philadelphia, he said. You saw it today with Jason. He felt like he was a part of the Phillies family. He wore that ‘Be Bold’ T-shirt proudly, then he put on a Phillies jersey and a Phillies cap.

This is an All-Pro center on the best offensive line in football from a Super Bowl championship team. And here he was in our clubhouse today sort of backing the Phillies. I thought that was pretty remarkable, he said.

San Francisco, where he found the zenith of his career, was one of the teams who were reportedly impressed with Lincecum’s performance. And they could be one of the teams suited best to try him on for size. They have poor rotation depth, and if the front office won’t break the line to sign a free agent, maybe it’s fate for Tim’s comeback story to have its maximum magic potential in the place he found the most success. He won’t be the strongest duct tape out there. Maybe, in the end, he won’t be duct tape at all. But if you’re telling me there’s a chance, it’s worth pulling for.royals_097

Korver said that it is on the Cavs’ players, as the oldest roster in the league, to lift themselves up.

Sports, that wonderful, horrible, meaningful, meaningless, inspiring, cynical, beautiful entity, just completed another wild feat. It took 2,390 miles of ocean and shrank it. It urged Hawaii and the United States mainland into a fresh realm of spiritual juxtaposition. It continued to redefine, according to Hawaiians, how Hawaiians perceive themselves.

Last Saturday, a 24-year-old quarterback in his first NFL playoff game threw a touchdown pass to himself, commanded a wacko second-half comeback in a loud road stadium and forged a clinching-play block that deserves to prove unforgettable. On Monday, a 19-year-old quarterback entered the College Football Playoff national championship after halftime, redefined the tenor of that humongous game, became its most valuable player and threw a game-winning 41-yard touchdown pass so eye-pleasing that it will prove unforgettable.

“I think it’s just getting back to playing as one unit,” he said. “Like, playing as a team. No matter what our schemes are, no matter what’s going on, we’ve got to trust each other at both ends of the floor. It’s a very general thing to say, but there’s a lot of truth to it. There’s definitely problems on both sides of the court right now. I think playing together, playing with effort and energy is probably a common theme on both sides right now.

But his downfall has been epic. He has not demonstrated he can make the transition from prospering in the gimmick offense of his rookie season with the Redskins to being able to thrive as a more traditional NFL pocket passer. He has not been able to remain healthy and in the lineup. He has not provided evidence he can avoid drama like this week’s dust-up with Moss. Is this a big deal? No. But it’s enough to tilt the odds of returning to the NFL further against Griffin.

But Griffin should have simply let it go. Any NFL team that would consider signing Griffin at this point would do so with him being a No. 2 or a No. 3 quarterback in mind. He’s not going anywhere as a starter. But no team wants a second- or third-string quarterback who cannot coexist peacefully with coaches and teammates, and who might take to social media to settle scores and create a minor uproar in the process.

The case shifted to New York, where the league had filed a lawsuit seeking to have Henderson’s ruling affirmed. Henderson upheld the suspension imposed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.jaguars_029
