Miller’s assist extended his points streak to five games. …

A career-long backup until then, Hoyer had played well to start that season. The following year, the Browns drafted Johnny Manziel; Hoyer held him off until December, when they lost two straight after reaching 7-4 in his comeback season. Hoyer is now on his fourth team since then, including Houston, where he hit his low point when he threw four interceptions in a shutout playoff loss to the Chiefs in the 2015 season.

Rangers C Mika Zibanejad missed his fifth consecutive game due to a concussion and has skated on his own three of the previous four days. However, he has not been cleared for practice yet. … New York scratched D Steven Kampfer. … The Rangers are 14-5-3 over the last 22 games against the Devils, dating back to March 19, 2013. … It was the 10th time the Rangers’ Kevin Hayes and the Devils’ Jimmy Hayes played against each in the NHL. Kevin Hayes has won eight of the 10 meetings against his brother. … Devils scratched D Dalton Prout, D Steven Santini and F Drew Stafford.

“I don’t have anything to say about any of the appeal or anything about that issue, today,” Jones said via the team’s website. “But certainly I’ll be visiting with you guys about it in the future. Right now, today, is just not the time for me to talk about it.”

Marcus Mariota suffered a knee injury on the second drive of the game of the Tennessee Titans’ 12-7 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The injury limited his mobility but he was able to finish the game.

It was another rough note in a rocky third season for Mariota. After the game, Mariota said he was fine and did not have a visible limp or wrapping on his knee.

Mariota finished the day 16-of-31 for 159 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions. He has a career-high 14 interceptions this season.ny_rangers_043

He has a variety of weapons in receivers Nacarius Fant and Lucky Jackson and tight end Deon Yelder.

“We’re going into this game looking at it as a postseason opportunity,” Western Kentucky first-year coach Mike Sanford told reporters. “(It’s) a true one-game season. It’s the postseason.”

The Hilltoppers are led by quarterback Mike White. The 6-4, 225-pound senior threw for 3,826 yards with 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.

Notre Dame (offensive linemen Mike McGlinchey and Quenton Nelson), Ohio State (center Billy Price and cornerback Denzel Ward), Iowa (linebacker Josey Jewell and cornerback Josh Jackson) and Texas (safety DeShon Elliott and punter Michael Dickson) each have two players on the first team.

Clemson had the most players selected to all three teams with six. Defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, linebacker Dorian O’Daniel and offensive tackle Mitch Hyatt made the second team. Defensive end Austin Bryant and guard Tyrone Crowder were third-team picks.

In Dorsey’s introductory press conference Friday, owner Jimmy Haslam made it clear that Dorsey’s primary focus in his new role will be finding a quarterback to lead the team.

“Let me say it this way: The Cleveland Browns are not going to be successful until we get a quarterback,” Haslam said, per “And we obviously have DeShone and two other quarterbacks on the roster. We’re going to look at free agency and the draft. As it was mentioned earlier, we have a substantial amount of capital. We’re going to do whatever it takes to find the quarterback we need to be successful.”

The Browns have started nine quarterbacks over the past four years, but the franchise has not found a leader they can depend on to turn around the team. Cleveland’s current quarterbacks – DeShone Kizer (21), Kevin Hogan (25) and Cody Kessler (24) – are some of the youngest in the NFL, and they have all started for the Browns over the past two seasons. canadiens_1243_c436228869f32e75-140x140

Bills’ Zay Jones appears to levitate after play, Internet goes crazy

Until Sunday, Zay Jones lived a relatively normal existence as a rookie wide receiver with the Bills, best known for setting the NCAA single-season and career reception records while at East Carolina.

But that all changed after one play in Sunday’s Bills-Chiefs game, as Jones will forevermore be known as “The Man Who Levitated.” On a second-quarter play, Jones fell to the ground just out of the end zone trying to make a catch.

Once again, Ngakoue had helped to force the Browns into punting on fourth down. Third-down sacks and pressures are always big time plays, but especially in a game that was within one score almost all the way down to the wire.

Derrick Brooks, an appeals officer appointed by both the NFL and NFLPA, was the one who reduced Iloka’s punishment.

Iloka’s agent, Ron Slavin, released a statement saying thank you to Brooks but reiterated that they felt Iloka did nothing wrong.

“While we still believe George did nothing wrong on the play and the helmet-to-helmet contact was a result of Antonio Brown’s lowering his head as he braced for contact, we felt and argued that a suspension was particularly egregious.

“We thank Derrick for acknowledging our concerns and making the proper decision.”

Hornacek played seldom-used shooting guard Ron Baker to bother Kent Bazemore and Marco Bellineli. He went to a small lineup early in the fourth quarter to counter the Hawks’ center-free starting five as New York built a seven-point lead before the starters returned. And, later, Hornacek decided to foul with the Hawks down three in the final seconds instead of giving them a chance to tie the game — a decision that helped the Knicks walk off the floor with a 111-107 win.canadiens_036_37aa10b69f80e836-140x140

Depleted Spurs beat Suns for 8th win in 9 games

Spurs: Dejounte Murray tied his career high with 14 rebounds. … Brandon Paul and Forbes each got his second start of the season, Rudy Gay his fourth. … Gasol missed his first game of the season after starting the first 26. … San Antonio had an 18-10 advantage in offensive rebounds.

OK, well Mahomes has an excellent arm. It doesn’t surprise me that comes off as unbelievable in practice. However, Mahomes is taking a majority of these reps with the scout team. On the scout team, you just look at a card and run that play. Often as offensive linemen, we’d get in trouble for running our techniques for a play when the defense wants it done differently. You just do what the defense wants. Mahomes is free from reading coverages and free from consequence of mistakes.

“You never want to lose anybody like that,” Heyward said. “We have to compete and keep playing for Ryan.”

Fifteen Steelers players also wore customized Shazier cleats. Those players were Vince Williams, Sean Davis, Stephon Tuitt, Cam Heyward, Arthur Moats, Tyson Alualu, Mike Hilton, T.J. Watt, Javon Hargrave, William Gay, Bud Dupree, Robert Golden, Roosevelt Nix, Anthony Chickillo and Antonio Brown.

Alualu posted on Instagram a photo of his cleats accompanied by a customized No. 50 Terrible Towel.

Caldwell has taken the blame for both gaffes repeatedly during news conferences over the past two weeks.

The Lions are all but out of the NFC North title race — something that appeared wide open after Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers broke his right collarbone in Week 6 — and likely need to win out and receive some help to make the playoffs as a wild-card team.

Jameis Winston injury update: Buccaneers QB will start vs. Packers

“You’re going to go through some ups and downs throughout a season, as a team and individually,” Barberio said. “The key is not to get too high with the highs and too low with the lows. That’s the way hockey goes and I’m just happy to contribute a bit.”

Barberio put the Avalanche ahead to stay 6:17 into the third. His slap shot off the rush hit Pittsburgh forward Riley Sheahan in front and got past goaltender Tristan Jarry.

“That was a huge win that we really needed, especially in our division,” Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau said. “We weren’t very good in the first period, but we came back and played the way we need to play in the second and third.”

Vincent Trocheck also scored for the Panthers, while Henrik Zetterberg scored for the Wings, who are 0-5 in overtime.

“We had a lot of chances throughout the whole game,” Crawford said. “The third was our best period. It was another good win for us at home, something to build off of and keep going with this.”

Ball didn’t seem to mind.

“That’s what the team is for,” he said. “JC came in and he was cooking tonight.”

Brandon Ingram added 18 points and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 15 for the Lakers, who have won two straight after losing five in a row.

“It doesn’t matter who comes in, who finishes the game — we support each other and throughout the game everyone made huge contributions,” Lakers coach Luke Walton said. “At the end, that group had it rolling. So I was planning on throwing `Zo and Brook (Lopez) back in the game but because of the way the momentum was going, we stuck with the group that was out there and they got the job done for us.”

Wildfires cause Rams to make contingency practice plans

The Rams expect to practice Thursday at their Thousand Oaks, Calif., facility but are making contingency plans if wildfires in the Los Angeles area severely affect air quality as they prepare for a crucial NFC game Sunday against the Eagles at the L.A. Coliseum, the Los Angeles Times reported.

McVay said that if fires spread and affect air quality at USC, too, then the Rams would look for another practice facility. Still, he said he wasn’t concerned that a break in routine, if necessary, would affect preparation for the NFC-leading Eagles, pointing out that his players successfully handled a trip to London to play the Jaguars.

“They just kind of adjust and adapt, and I think we’ve become a more mature team as the season has progressed,” he said.

The Rams (9-3) face the Eagles (10-2) at 4:30 p.m. ET Sunday with homefield advantage through the NFC playoffs possibly at stake. noted that, “The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was unable to find an NFL suitor this year after launching a national protest against racism and police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem. Yet the protest grew this year, as hundreds of NFL players kneeled during the anthem in the wake of criticism from President Trump.”

Amari Cooper ruled out for Week 13 vs. Giants with a concussion

Stewart was also hurt on the play. He ran off the field after the hit with what appeared to be a shoulder injury or possibly a stinger, according to ESPN’s Jeff Legwold. But he was able to return to the game quickly.

Cooper’s injury takes yet another receiving target away from Derek Carr. The Raiders also lost Michael Crabtree when he was ejected after a fight between him and Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib that set off a full-fledged brawl between the two teams.

Before the injury, Cooper had one reception, which was a 9-yard touchdown. The Raiders lead the Broncos 14-0 at home.

Matthew Stafford hit Darren Fells for what looked like a 14-yard touchdown in the third quarter of the Lions’ Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Vikings on Thursday. And the play would have stood if the Lions would have attempted the PAT sooner.

It was ruled a catch for a touchdown initially. The ruling was confirmed, according to the broadcast. But it wasn’t a catch.

The Lions lined up to attempt the PAT, but took their sweet time snapping the ball. It gave officials a chance to take another look at the play. The ruling on the field was changed, and the Lions had to settle for a field goal.

If the ruling was confirmed and the Lions had gotten the go ahead to try the PAT, this is on them. But maybe this actually wasn’t the Lions’ fault.

The All-Star point guard took some contact during a rigorous workout at the team’s morning shootaround.

“Our vigilant fight on behalf of Ezekiel once again exposed the NFL’s disciplinary process as a sham and a lie. They hired several former federal prosecutors, brought in “experts” and imposed a process with the stated goal of ‘getting it right,’ yet the management council refuses to step in and stop repeated manipulation of an already awful League-imposed system.

Jones has become increasingly and more openly unhappy with Goodell’s performance, particularly over his handling of protests related to the national anthem and his suspension of Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott. Jones, in fact, has said in recent weeks that the league needs to hire a new commissioner, OTL reported, citing an unidentified source.

Michael Jordan has the record with 866. … Coach Tyronn Lue said the team is targeting Monday’s game in Philadelphia for G Iman Shumpert (sore left knee) to return. He’s missed the last two games. … F Tristan Thompson (strained left calf) remains sidelined and Lue said there is no specific timetable for him to play. The Cavs estimated he could be out for up to a month when he got hurt on Nov. 1.

Thomas has been ramping up his activity, running harder and appears to be ahead of schedule to make his debut with Cleveland. Originally, the Cavs forecast he would be playing in games by the end of December but there’s a sense it could be sooner.

Despite the loss, Jets coach Paul Maurice remains upbeat regarding his team’s play and its chances in a wide-open Central Division.
